How I Became a Title Agent
People often ask me how I got into the title industry, and every time, I can’t help but laugh a little because, truthfully, it happened completely by happy accident.
I never set out to work in real estate or title. At the time, I was working for the City of Crystal River in a seasonal position helping visitors experience the magic of Three Sisters Springs and its famous manatees. I absolutely loved that job - the people, the nature, the sense of community - but when the season began to wind down, I knew I needed something more permanent.
That’s when fate stepped in. The President of the Crystal River Chamber of Commerce mentioned an opening he thought would be perfect for me. A local title company was hiring a receptionist, and although I had no idea what a title company even did, I decided to take a leap of faith. I accepted the job, determined to give it my best effort.
Before long, I realized I had found something special. I enjoyed connecting with customers, answering their questions, and helping ease their worries. My curiosity and dedication paid off - I was quickly promoted to a junior processor, where I began learning the ins and outs of title work. I dove into contracts, learned how to clear title commitments, and built strong relationships with real estate agents.
Somewhere along the way, it clicked: not only was I good at this, but I genuinely loved it. I was helping people through one of the most meaningful milestones of their lives - buying or selling a home - and I could see the direct impact my work had on my community.
That sense of purpose is what has kept me in the business ever since. Every closing tells its own story, and no two days are ever the same. That’s the beauty of title - it’s a mix of problem-solving, teamwork, and a little bit of magic. And every day, I get to be a small part of making someone’s homeownership dream come true.
